- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1/4 cup panko bread crumbs
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon ground mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
- pinch of salt
- 1 large vidalia onion (diced)
- 4 ounces sliced white mushrooms
- 1 teaspoon fresh chopped thyme leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 1/2 tablespoons flour or cornstarch
- 3 cups beef stock
- 1 tablespoon butter
- kosher salt and pepper (to taste)
- Chopped fresh parsley or chives
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, panko bread crumbs, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, ground mustard, onion powder, pepper, and salt. Form into four oval patties.
- Heat olive oil in a cast iron skillet over medium heat and brown both sides of the patties for about 6-7 minutes total. Remove and keep warm.
- In the same skillet, sauté onions until translucent; add mushrooms and cook until softened. Stir in thyme and flour; then gradually add beef stock while scraping up brown bits.
- Bring gravy to a boil and reduce heat; return patties to the skillet and simmer for 5-7 minutes until cooked through.
