  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) hot water
  • 24 ounces (678g) cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 cup (207g) sugar
  • 1/2 cup (57g) natural unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2/3 cup (153g) sour cream, room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 6 oz | 169g | 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, melted and slightly cooled
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 3/4 cups unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (114g) natural unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 6 cups (690g) powdered sugar
  • 3/4 cup heavy whipping cream
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 1/4 cups (380g) chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a springform pan.
  2. Mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Add milk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and egg; mix until smooth. Stir in hot water.
  3. Divide the batter between two pans and bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool.
  4. Beat cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add sugar and cocoa powder, then mix in sour cream and vanilla extract. Add melted chocolate chips and eggs one at a time until just combined.
  5. Pour the cheesecake filling over one cooled cake layer and bake at 325°F (160°C) for 50-60 minutes. Cool in the oven for an hour.
  6. Prepare buttercream by beating softened butter with cocoa powder and powdered sugar until creamy; then add heavy cream.
  7. Assemble by layering the cheesecake filling between cake layers, frosting the entire cake with buttercream.
